What You Need to Know About Your Nissan Key Fob
It's possible that you've lost your Nissan key fob or it stopped functioning. Before you panic or call the dealer, go back to where you last saw it.

Smart Keys
The key fob that was included with your Nissan is a key part of its incredibly advanced keyless entry system. It connects to the vehicle's electronics to unlock doors or start the engine and comes with a handy design that's simple to keep in your wallet. A key fob also offers features that make life easier, like the lockout protection feature that ensures you won't leave the vehicle with the keys inside.
Smart keys work wirelessly unlike previous models that required you to insert the key into an ignition slot in order to access your vehicle's internal systems. When you approach the vehicle the Nissan detects the Intelligent Key fob's proximity to it and activates its internal functions. This may include opening or locking the doors, raising and lowering the tailgate, and even starting the engine.
Certain smart key models come with a valet key that is hidden inside the metal. The key can be removed from a release found on the side of Smart Key fobs to lock the trunk or glovebox before giving it to valet. The Smart Key fob has a charging pocket which can be used to charge the battery even when it is not in use.
If your Nissan's Intelligent Key fob isn't working as it should, you may require a replacement of its batteries. The owner's manual will offer instructions on how to change the batteries in all fobs.
Intelligent Key Fob
Nissan Intelligent Key Fobs allow you to unlock the doors of your car and start the engine at pressing a button. It also allows you to activate presets that are based on your preferences. For instance, you can adjust the mirrors and seat to ensure maximum comfort. You can control the music on your smartphone so you don't have to leave your car.
Intelligent Key Fob have a built-in antenna that transmits a signal when you approach your vehicle or press one of its buttons. Once the vehicle receives the signal that the system has been activated, it will start, unlocking and locking doors, starting up the engine, or opening the trunk. If you want to test the fob, stand at a distance away from your vehicle and click the buttons. If the lights flash or the horn beeps then you've successfully programmed your Intelligent Key Fob.
Like all remotes, Intelligent Key fobs require batteries in order to function. Our Parts Department will help you quickly and efficiently replace the battery if it is out. To do this, simply remove the key hidden in the lock and open the battery compartment on your key fob. Remove the battery that was in it, then insert a new one in its place. Assure that the positive side of the new battery faces in the same direction as it did with the original one. Finally close the compartment for the battery and return the key to its hidden place inside the case.
Remote Start
Nissan remote start allows drivers to cool or heat their vehicles from outside provided they're within the operating range. The ignition of the car can be activated by pressing the button on the key fob or smartphone application. The remote start system may also trigger climate control, allowing the driver to choose their preferred temperature. Some systems include two-way communication that lets the driver observe what's happening in their vehicle.
If your car's remote start function isn't working, the main reason is the low power of the battery. The key fob runs on an insignificant, replaceable battery, which lasts about two years before it needs to be replaced. The battery can be changed quickly, but you'll be required to be aware of the location where the hidden key is on your Intelligent Key Fob and how to access the battery compartment.

Lockout Protection
Lockout protection can prevent the nuisance of lockouts that are caused by impedance relay failure. A special module within the power control unit is able to monitor the impedance relay's activity and then shuts down the output. This feature is only available on vehicles equipped with the Smart Key system or through the vehicle personalization menu.
Many serious accidents have occurred because the machine was running when it was supposed to be turned off for maintenance or repairs. These accidents are often caused by stored energy that has not been properly released. Lock-out tag-out (LOTO) systems help prevent these accidents by making sure that the machines remain off until the authorized individual releases them.
The LOTO system is comprised of a variety of locks tags, locks, and other devices that are used to isolate, secure or shut off the device from electrical power. All "affected" and "authorized" personnel are required to be trained in the use of these devices. These devices include, but aren't restricted to locks, chains and padlocks. Each device is uniquely identified and labeled, including the date and time it was put in use, the name and title of the person authorized, and the purpose of the lockout or tagout (repairs maintenance, repairs and so on.). It must also be clearly stated that these devices cannot be removed until an entire LOTO procedure has been followed.
